Yes, unfortunately this is all a direct result of China's opening its economy and joining WTO. The multinationals are moving in in very big way. You can find Danone and Nestle advertisements now in the remotest corners of this vast country. Factory farming and the westernisation of Chinese lifestyles are proceeding apace. There are more Chinese people now interested in these issues but there is a large part of the population who do not have the education and knowledge with which to withstand the slick advertising campaigns. China is going to pay a huge price for joining WTO. The rich will get richer but the masses will pay with their health and the degradation of their environment. John.
