Guest guest
**In Western Australia, only one fast food chain sells a vegie burger, and that is Hungry Jacks (they are apparently owned by Burger King). Animal Fat in vegie burgers ******************************* Sunday Times (Western Australia) By John Masanauskas and Nick Taylor Hungry Jack's Vegieburgers are made with a meat product, an investigation has revealed. The discovery has shocked thousands of vegetarians who favour the burger for religious or lifestyle reasons. And a leader of WA's Hindu community has called for more information about the meals. " This is a disappointment, " Hindu Temple of WA priest Subrahmanya Bhad said. " Some Hindus who are vegetarian are eating the burgers. " " Perhaps they can't take their children there now. They should label the burgers. " An investigation by News Limited revealed sample Vegieburgers had traces of animal fat. Vegieburgers are cooked in vegetable oil, but the oil is recycled between different food items to save costs. The investigation showed that Hungry Jack's fries contained beef tallow preservative, which was transferred to Vegieburgers through the re-used oil. A fatty acid profile conducted by Foray Laboratories confirmed animal fat in three Vegieburgers. Foray also found that an uncooked sample of Hungry Jack's fries contained animal fat consistent with beef tallow. Hungry Jack's spokesman Jim Wilson said the company never claimed the the Vegieburger was for vegetarians. " But the mere fact that it has chees in it should point to the fact that it's not a strictly vegetarian product, " Mr Wilson said. End.
