Guest guest
> " not so fast with the lurking " - ok so I'm a lazy lurker, but I do enjoy a good read... > The lurking thing really fascinates me. This list has 237 members. I assume people drift in and out but can't understand how they can read the stuff and not stick their own two penny worth in. Boy would it get chaotic though if they all joined in. Must be a good word somewhere for 237 squabbling vegans. A bevy? A protest? A fraggle? AND i think that the best thing about family, lovers and real friends is that you can treat them like shit and they still love you. Works both ways. They've got to be able to treat you like shit as well - and that includes not reaching your ethical standards. Choosing a partner I think I agree that unless there was the same aproach to ethics we just wouldn't click - but it's a long long time since I was in that situation. I would have more of a problem with a christian than a meat eater. A meat eater just hasn't thought it through and I bet I could change them but a committed christian has accepted such intellectual compromises that we could never be on the same wave length. That's not to say I don't admire some of them enormeously as people and respect their right to hold their beliefs but we would just be so poles apart and it would be ethically unacceptable to interfere with their beliefs. At least on dead flesh, animal exploitation and eco issues we're on the moral high ground and they are fair game.. Intrigued that students are regarded as fertile recruitment grounds.(hope I've got the right list for that thread, gets confusing when same issue is discussed on more than one list) Todays students seem impossibly materialistic and unconcerned about much beyond having a good time - with a few notable exceptions. They ain't what they used to be. I would love to help man some stalls at events especially if it involved dishing out huge vats of good soup or delicious salad stuffed pittas.I'll convert anybody with good food. Does anybody do anything? As an isolated (shropshire) country mouse I am very unaware of what goes on elsewhere and how I could help. rosanne
