Guest guest
June 29, 2002 (Last Saturday of every month) Time: 6:00 p.m. Host: Ron Site: Axum 1233 Polk Street (between Sutter & Bush) San Francisco, CA (415) 474-7743 Type: Ethiopian restaurant (veg & non-veg) Cost: Order veg dishes from the menu RSVP to [ *82 (925) 944-4743 ] by Tuesday, Jun 25. BAVRT is NOT a drop-in dinner event. As always, you come under your own liability for all events. Pass the word to your friends. This is not an exclusive net-folks only event. This is not an activist group or singles event. Note that if you plan to attend this dinner, you can order only vegetarian dishes, even if the restaurant serves other stuff. If you have suggestions for future sites, please e-mail them to . If you want to volunteer host a BAVRT dinner, please let me know!! ===================================================================== Contents #1) Changes #2) This month's trek #3) Last month's trek #4) News Section #5) NON-BAVRT related stuff (feel free to skip) --- #1) Changes Many many years ago, there was an event section on veginfo.com website that people could post their events. In an effort to improve that functionality, I removed that working code :-( and promptly forgot about it for several years. As a work around, some folks have started posting event and other info of general interest on http://www.veginfo.com/bbs/ Please use the above link to post event info now or to see the events others may have posted. Finally work on " improved " code has really started! There are other enhancements that also will be added real soon. Some things on my plate are - a totally separate personal section (for singles) - ability to post events (for everybody) - interact with other veg*ans (for everybody) - plus much much more! ;-> The current plan is to have something up and running within a couple of weeks (assuming I figure out the server side Java alphabet soup before then). --- #2) This month's trek Ron has kindly agreed to host this month's dinner at Axum in San Francisco. This is an ethiopian restaurant. According to Ron, this is Axum's second restaurant in San Francisco (so make sure to come to the right one). They opened this restaurant a few months ago and is supposedly very nice and big. Apparently all the vegetarian entrees there are vegan. That is good. They can prepare dishes for 1 ($7.25), 2 ($14), 3 ($20), 4 ($25) or 5 ($30) people. So you have the option of sharing or not sharing. You can even decide want you what to do after you get to the restaurant, as we are ordering off the menu. Their injera (flat pancake like bread) is made of wheat. Please remember to RSVP soon for this fabulous dinner! --- #3) Last month's trek http://www.veginfo.com/bavrt/restaurantlist.html Howard hosted last month's dinner at Kamal Palace in Berkeley. Even though this restaurant was a veg and non-veg place, Howard made sure that all food served was vegan. In fact, all details were meticulously planned and executed perfectly by our host. We even had a special room so that we did not have to watch people eating non-vegan stuff! All 37 people who RSVPed showed up. There were three cancellations. For $15, we had quite a bit to eat and not everybody was able to finish all the food. There were the usual, it was spicy/not spicy enough comments in the feedback. Some folks felt that the naan (bread) served was not warm enough (quite understandable as the restaurant had to make special vegan naan in advance for our big group). Most people gave very high marks for the service. Since most of us were satiated with good vegan food, some of us stayed back talking long after the dinner was over. As usual, this turned out to be a very enjoyable BAVRT dinner. --- #4) News Section ( If you come across news items, veg or otherwise, in the mainstream media that may be of potential interest to BAVRT members, please forward me the URL. ) a) US Report Blames Humans for Global Warming http://story.news./news?tmpl=story & cid=594 & ncid=751 & e=10 & u=/nm/20020603\ /hl_nm/environment_warming_1 " The Bush administration acknowledged for the first time in a new report that US greenhouse gas emissions will increase significantly over the next two decades due mostly to human activities, but again rejected an international treaty to slow global warming.
