HALF BRICKS AND BROKEN HEARTS. A HUMBLE SUBMISSIONS

REQUEST.

DATE: Tue, 27 Nov 2001

TO: j. d. campbell <thecollapse

FROM: mike f saturday. <mikesaturday

SUBJECT: hbbh (again)

MESSAGE: Shit, kid. I doubt you’re actually that

busy. Here I am busting my ass trying to get Jetplane

3 finished, trying to get The Adventures of Boxlor

finished (when it’s “by” both of us) and you can’t

even get your shit together to draw up a simple stupid

logo for Half Bricks? Fucker.

Anyway.

Besides the logo we also need the whole “submission

guidelines / call for submissions” text so that we can

make handouts. You know what to write. Just sort of

break it up into a couple paragraphs like so:

THE NAME

Half Bricks & Broken Hearts. I know. We’re sorry.

HALF BRICKS

Half bricks is representative of politics of any sort,

from recycling and dumpster diving to living in an

anarchist commune. It’s not just exclusive to black

bloc actions and throwing molitov’s and chunks of

brick. (half bricks, if I may.)

BROKEN HEARTS

The broken heart represents the whole of personal

experience and is not just about love. In fact, the

fewer actual heartbreak stories, the better.

THE DEAL

Then explain that the zine exists to show that there

is a tie between the two, that the personal is

political, and vice versa. That every personal

decision is inherently political, and every political

statement is a personal choice and a way of life that

you have to chose to live.

Then just add a bit at the end about the specifics of

what we’re looking for. Just, you know, point form,

what we’re looking for in a submission, like this:

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

- We need each person to submit two stories. One Half

Bricks type story, One Broken Hearts type.

- Submissions can be any length, and can take any form

(essay, prose, poetry, fiction and non-fiction).

- Accompanying images (photos and/or drawing) are not

necessary but will be accepted.

- To pass this on to anyone you think would be into

it.

QUESTIONS OR SUBMISSIONS, CONTACT COLLAPSE

OR VISIT WWW.AIOKU.COM.

FIRST DEADLINE IS MARCH 31ST, 2002.

Shit, just take what i just wrote there and stretch it

out, add your big words. Just something to throw on a

quarter page flyer to catch peoples attention. It

doesn’t have to be perfect; we can explain what we

want in further detail in person or after the initial

contact. Just something to get people thinking, get

their minds going. Get them interested.

All right, I’ll leave this up to you. Don’t forget

about the logo, OK?

Mike.
