Luckily we don't need to eat meat to maintain an evolutionary process that has already happened, and whilst our hominid ancestors may have needed to eat meat to jump over that particular evolutionary hurdle (although of course this is just a theory, and evolutionary theories are notoriously hard to test scientifically, after all how can you possibly disprove them ?) this doesn't mean we still have to continue doing so. Similarly, a great deal of ancient civilisation was built on slavery but this doesn't justify it's existence today. Vaughan
Guest guest
hiya..i saw that comment " in walking with pre-historic beasts " also now, i might not be tooo articulat(its early am still)...but a few points i believe that humans ate a lot more veggies, grains, fruits , etc then we give our ancestors credit for..they have down tests on certain corprolites in africa, and came up with hordes of extinct seeds, plant material, etc its a common " myth " that man ate meat, because we portray cavemen as running around eating hunks of dead flesh.. while, its true man did eat flesh, i don't believe it had a whole lot to do with " brain capacity " or growth... do elephants have small brains? how about binobos? they are both veg..and elephants recognize their own dead, amongst other facts early man ate a lot of non meat products, but, when scientists did up the remians, wot do they find, bones, stone tools..how well is a wicker collecting basket going to survive? further, mankind in its past at meat..primitive man also died at about age 30 just a few thoughts sorry couldn't be more articulate fraggle " mezzanine girl " <coldeventhough wrote: > >dear all, one of my best friends (who incidentally has admitted to seeing >the case for veganism and wanting to be a vegan if only she were possessed >of enough self discipline, though what she means as 'seeing' the case for i >am unclear of.... as i personally and perhaps also >inaccurately/simplistically believe that to see the logic of veganism is >'self discipline' enough.... or at least ALMOST.... or, uh, something.) >wrote the below and i forward it here as i feel currently too inarticulate, >and more generally too ill equipped information wise, to respond...... so... >any suggestions? >i tentatively offer the idea of 'spiritual' or 'moral' 'evolution' in >'support' of veganism and as opposed to physical.... but wondered whether >anyone has any more coherent, intelligent and developed arguments/responses >etc etc >bani >ps- the relevant part of her email follows: > > >I was watching Walking with Beasts the other day, which is absolutely >brilliant by the way, ..and they were saying how our evolution from " apes " >(can't remember the correct term) into humans was achieved because of the >increase in brain size and brain power - a feat that occurred because >of....the consumption of MEAT.
