Guest guest
[i started replying in between your message, but it looked too messy!] Reasons: purely ethical, animal rights etc, though I use the " environmental/solving all the world's problems " arguments when people ask me about it - otherwise, at least as a guy, you get all the " poor ickle animals " sarcastic brigade or the " you think more of animals than you do people " brigade on your back (actually, I believe we should all be treated with equal compassion - no matter our colour, nationality, sex, sexual preference or species. Otherwise you're just following abitrary discriminations). I had been veggie for about a year or two before (my mum wouldn't let me go vegan though while I lived at home, so had to wait until I left for uni), and believe it or not it was a load of meat eater's taunts about the cruelty in egg and milk production that made me think about vegetarianism a bit deeper. So the only logical step was veganism. I became veggie after learning about vivesection (so really it was the BUAV who started it all for me!). I was 14 at the time, going out with an older girl of 15! We learnt about the horrors of vivsection together, replying to a BUAV poster campaign, then became veggie together and then both become vegan together, by which time we were sharing a flat in Brum at uni. Kind of made it quite easy, having the other person there as support. We split up at uni, though! Lost touch now, but hope she's still vegan. Brainy: not really - anyway you start to lose it from lack of use and age! Get together: Yeah - I like meeting vegans. What sort of thing are you planning? I thought you were in Newport? Not enough vegan men there obviously! (Sorry - couldn't resist!) Company: " Am I allowed to say " ! Hey - I don't really care what I say. I get into loads of trouble over this, but I (generally) believe what I say, so am prepared to defend myself. Anyway, its Credit Suisse First Boston - the " global investment bank " (boo hiss). I'm only contract, so I'm not employed by them. I justify it to myself because I do more damage to their systems than good. And they'd probably agree with this! Sport: Hmm. I'm not interested in sport at all. I'm not into competitiveness generally. Maybe something more on the spiritual side (tai-chi, yoga etc, but I'm too lazy/busy to get started). I meant something more along the lines of promoting veganism/socio-ethics, maybe using my IT skills to help vegan/environmental charities etc. So far I'm trying to set up a kind of showcase for what can be done with some of the newer web technologies: http://www.veganomics.com. Its still under contstruction though, and needs a designer to give it a face lift! Interests: Really sad geeky ones! But I've started thinking more about politics (not party politics maybe I mean policies?) over the last few years - probably as I've got more into the environmental side of things, and tieing veganism in with political thought. I'm also into culture jamming, contemporary design, and psy-trance music. Went to see an experimental ambient gig last week - an experience! Pets: I've got ethical concerns about pets (ok flame on!). I don't want to turn this into an essay though. I've got a few spiders around the flat (house spiders, not imported exotic types!). I have to put them outside when my girlfriend comes to stay, but she hasn't noticed " Fred " under the toilet yet, so he's always there! Sorry this is so long! But Suz, don't worry about the impression you give with your search for a vegan man - it shows you can laugh at yourself which I think is a sign of intelligence, and I also couldn't believe your age! You sound so wise (and lively)! Anyway, hope the fast is going OK (my excuse for such a long message is to distract you!). vegan-network, " Sue Grayson " <suzy.grayson@n...> wrote: > >I'm a thirty something ethical vegan, been vegan since I was 18. > > Another guy who went vegan young!!
