Yeah..this is another claissic (plants have feelings) altough according to

the teachings of Lord Krishna, killing plants is an act of violence. Many

people choose only to eat ripe fruit discarded by plants which does not have

any detrimental effect on the host plant.

I agree (be a fool not to) that plants do not have a central nervous system

similar to the animal kingdom, but the idea of conciousness (or awareness)

being something unique to the animal kingdom is a very arogant philosophical

statement.

The closest I ever got to reading any serious research on this subject was

when a favourite Nietzche book of mine (daybreak , thoughts on the

prejudices of morality) made referance to Astrophysisist Johann Zollner, who

" apparently " did a lot of research into memory and awareness in matter (or

substance). Nietzche and Kant also struggled with this idea of (the thing

within itself) with the former concluding that everything was completely

imeasurable beyond our experience of it.

Nietzche also cemented for me the idea that evolution was not a process of

design but rather of chance. That the eye was created BEFORE the purposes

that it ensured its survival. This is a lovely point in that it really

crushes the ridiculous (oh we are omni/carnivores because of our teeth). It

is amazing how darwinian theory is still interpreted be the masses as a

process of divine design.

Anyway, I never tracked down any Zollner stuff apart from some writings

about when he came to England to rigerously investigate some mysticism in

the late 19th or early 20th Century. And whilst I still lean towards the

universe of chance, I still hold a philosopical view in favour of becoming,

and that everything is always in a state of becoming.

At what point, and to what extent self awareness begins is well beyond our

comprehension. But I have the upmost respect for all animal life AND all

plant life. I am eternally greatful for the fruits of the world and I thank

them eternally.

Everything is one!

peace and love to you all!

Well then, as I'll never understand it....to the best of MY arrogant

comprehension, plants are less sentient than animals (j/k). It's a good

post, thanks for that. Saw a Hari-Krishna on the news yesterday. They had

their own dairy cows and a big muscley thing to plough their fields. It

said they allowed them to lead a normal life, I didn't see any calves

though.
