Guest guest
>>The horses that don't die in the race are usually put down when they're not fast enough.<< Horses are NOT put down when they are too slow on the track, not most of them anyway. They are retired and resold to people who are willing to retrain them and use them for pleasure or show. I own a horse, infact he is a retired Thoroughbred from the track. he was really slow only bringing home $152.00 He was then sent to his previous owner who kept him for a few years as a pleasure mount and a pasture buddy for her other horse. I then leased him, and bought him. People have mixed views on this sort of thing. I persnally have loved horses my entire life and was extatic when I finally began to ride them - It was so great to be able to form a connection with an animal who really LOVED to be ridden. my horse is like that. he greets me with a whinny and a nicker each time he sees me, gallops up to me from his paddock when he sees me, and is an excellent horse to ride. I use natural methods to train him, would never consider abusing him or riding him too hard. I know when enough is enough and I won't push him. We change the routine regularly so neither of us gets bored. Yep, we show, but I'm not in it for the ribbons. It's a great feeling to take home grand champions (been there done that) but it isn;t my goal. learning is my goal so I can be a better rider for my horse. When not polishing up my riding skills, I ride bareback with a halter and reins. No bit, no saddle, no leather, almost nothing. Right now I'm working on riding with just a soft rope around his chest so we won't need the halter. So far so good. Yes, abuse does go on with horses. But it's no different than abuse with dogs. Dogs are companion animals as well as horses. Dogs are trained, shown, and are our friends. Do you see having dogs, or other pets, as inhumane? How are horses any different? Many people find horseback riding a very interesting, fun, and enjoyable experiance. FOr poeple like me, it's a lifestyle. Yes, I'm Vegan, yes I own animals as pets. I ride not only my horse but I train and exercise anothers as well. It's my life and personally I see nothing wrong with it. Horses, and any pets, reduce stress for their owners. After having 4 rabbits, a horse and 3 dogs, I've learned that. They are friends you can always trust, always talk to. They are alot more reliable and trustworhy than most people in the world today. I'm sorry if I sounded rude or anything, that wasn't my intent. I'm just trying to give you a different scenario and show you that not all racehorses are slaughtered, or die on the track when they are too slow or whatever. I am against horse abuse and slaughter in any way, shape or form but in my community, everyone is a loving horse owner and is very tuned into their horses needs.
