Hayley,

Where is the best place to go snowboarding in Europe? My husband is planning on going in March with a few work colleagues. He has never snowboarding before, and does not know where the best places are to go. He is also vegan and needs somewhere, which will cater for him.

Any advice would be appreciated :o)

Hi Karen,

A Good website to look at for an overview of resorts is

http://wwww.iglu.com . Its pretty hard to say where to go as all the

resorts are so diverse - it really depends what you want out of the

holiday e.g. good terrain, good nightlife, close to airport etc.

Quite a good place for beginners is somewhere in the Three Valleys -

Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens - as the area is huge so there's

something for everyone. They get a lot of english visitors so they

at least understand what you are asking for in restaurants! Meribel

is a little bit 'too' english at times though! Best thing to do when

looking for a resort is decide what factors you want and then speak

to a travel agent. oh and find out where has good snow at the moment

cos its a bit dodgy this year!

With regard to food I would really recommend going self-catering.

Europeans don't even understand vegetarianism let alone veganism!!

They may appear to be sympathetic and say they'll cook something but

even their vegetable stock cubes contain beef so its hard to trust

anything they cook. A chalet is the other option but again, can you

trust the chefs?! I worked in a chalet last year and the chef fed

vegetarians gelatine! (believe me, I protested but he wouldn't take

any notice.) Some supermarkets in France do sell soya milk though

and I've even found a health food shop in one resort that some vegan

food.

I'll have a think about resorts for beginners and get back to you!

....glad to hear he wants to learn to snowboard!!
