Guest guest
Regarding the question about " porc flavoured bacon substitute " , I wondered in general how many of you use meat substitutes. You don't wake up and are a vegetarian (its rather like cutting the habit of smoking) We stopped meat first, and fish much later. We used to buy soy burgers in the beginning and all kinds of fake sausages, but started to dislike them exactly for this artificial meat flavour. And I assume they are a " starter-food " in becoming vegetarian. Since my daughter is vegan, I also had to ban dairy products and eggs from everyday cooking. And surprisingly, this was easier than I ever thought it might be. I don't think I could have done this step easily from eating meat to cutting out meat, fish, eggs and cheese in one go. I use a lot of soya and tempeh however, which are in a way also substitutes, but unflavoured and neutral. For burgers we use vegetables and/or grains and for everything containing " minced meat " we substitute corn or aubergines or peppers.. I think it takes quite a long learning process from being a meat- eater via not-eating-meat to becoming vegetarian. Gabriella
