Guest guest
> Thanks! Now to be honest - does one have to do a diet at all?? I can't speak for anyone else, and I know some people, notably diabetics, who really do have medical reasons for needing to lose weight (though not as many as some under-informed or plain size-bigoted doctors think.) But if you read the last 25 years' research, you find that the average fat person (I hate the word " overweight " --it's a judgment no one should make for anyone else) is neither unhealthy, underactive nor an overeater. You also find that, statistically, diets make people heavier, not lighter, because the body reponds to a diet as it (rightly) would have to a famine in our ancestors' time--by becoming more efficient metabolically, so as to be able to store fat for the next famine. And it does this every time one diets. Believe me, I tried 'em all, especially the low-carb ones. I did the Atkins diet for two years, and temporarily lost a lot of weight. I also got arthritis way, way early, because what Atkins didn't talk about is that low-carb diets raise the uric acid level in the blood, and over time that can do joint damage. Finally, 20 years ago, I personally said the hell with dieting. I am a lady of size, and happy to be so. I eat healthy most of the time, and enjoy my splurges without guilt. I've decided I'd much rather change our weightist culture than my body. And if the body bigots don't like it, they can just bleepin' well not look. :-) Blessings of the Venus of Willendorf, Rain @@@@ \\\\\\ ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
