Guest guest
INDIAN VEGANS > Hi and welcome, there is a vegan indian group in the uk, but I > cant remember the details right now, maybe if you contact the vegan > society they can help? > Hi Sonal - there are lots of possibilities for getting together with other vegans, Indian and allsorts, including London Vegans and various local groups listed in the Vegan Society magazine. There are also two , JainVegans (you don't have to be a Jain and much of the discussion is of interest to all vegans) and IVS (set up by the Indian Vegan Society). Shankar Narayan <shannade the founder of the Indian Vegan Society is the best person to contact about the ivs list. He will be in England next month and in August, before and after the World Veg Congress in Dresden, and will be staying with me and my husband in London. Do try to get to one of Lesley's summer events for vegan families - they're always great fun. Also if you look at the London Vegans website you may find something to interest you - food at the London Vegans meetings is provided by Mahersh and Nishma of Shambhu's Kitchen and there are always other people with Indian connections. If you write to me privately I will put you on the mailing list of the Young Indian Vegetarians and Vegans (whose founder has long since become vegan) so you get their newsletter. It would also be worth joining the Vegan Society (I am their International/Multicultural Coordinator) which produces a full colour quarterly magazine - I can send you a sample copy if you would like this. Finally, do make sure the children get plenty of sunshine in the autumn and think about vitamin D as well as B12 as in this country there are several months of the year when the sun is too low in the sky for us to make vitamin D ourselves. Good wishes, Vanessa INTERNMENT IN AUSTRIA As most of you will know, on 21st May the Austrian security forces raided and trashed the Austrian Vegan Society office along with three animal welfare groups and arrested ten people - some were dragged from their beds at gunpoint. No evidence was produced and no charges were brought. Two weeks later they were brought to court for ten minutes each, still no charges or evidence produced, and interned for a further four weeks. Several are on hunger strike and Dr Martin Balluch, a leading academic, is now quite weak. Green Party MEPs and many other concerned individuals have protested at this total violation of human rights, which sounds more like 1938 than 2008. The Austrian Vegan Society website is moribund because all their equipment has been confiscated or trashed, but there are news updates and an on-line petition at www.vgt.at (click on the union jack flag for English version of the site). There are also statements on the European Vegetarian Union site and on www.vegansociety.com Vanessa

Chances are that I might have seen you! Were u there at London Vegans meet which had a talk on Anarchy Veganism? Were u there at Camden Green Fair at Shambhu's stall?I m friends with Nishma and Mr. Shankar already!Infact, Mr.Shankar too has mentioned your name in one of his mails to me!Keeping my hectic schedule revolving around my little kids in mind, it would be quite purposeful for me , if I had vegan friends in my own area as well(Ilford).Looking forward to more interaction with you, with love-Sonal
