Guest guest Posted September 3, 2002 Report Share Posted September 3, 2002 My mum is actually quite good with my diet actually. She gets quite excited & stocks up the cupboards with vegan goodies for me! If she finds a new flavour of cheezly she'll buy it etc! My Dad has a pretty old way of thinking. He likes shepherds pie, Sunday roast, steak & kidney pie etc (sorry if I'm making people queasy at the thought of that). My mum made a chilli once (with meat) with tortillas etc & he wasn't happy about it as he wanted a shepherds pie! My mum had gone to so much effort, I felt so bad for her! So the vegetarian issue just alludes him! We were actually watching that I'm a Celebrity get me out of here program about a week ago - waiting to see who would go in the shower with grubs & maggots. My Dad actually said (to me!!????) " Well, Tony Blackburn wouldn't mind that " when I asked why that was he said " he's a vegetarian, he's used to eating weird stuff that nobody else eats " . I obviously didn't dignify that with an answer as it is utterly ridiculous! What I found amusing was that he was happily tucking in to spaghetti bolognaise that I had made with Soya mince!! They would never hide meat in my food thank goodness. Probably because my dad would never cook! --- aurora62581 <cyfis wrote:

 I feel same way too!

For those who claim they don't eat much meat, that's already quite a
good start. & nbsp; It was on some report, & nbsp; if I remember correctly that
it's also the increasing amount of meat-reducers on the market that
it's causing the increase demand for vegetarian-meat like foods and
also reduction in demand for meat. & nbsp; Encouraging considering this is a
country with a meat eating culture!

Anyway, from & nbsp; meat eater friends most of them let me go my own way, & nbsp;
or even if I say I'm vegetarian they'll always ask me do i still eat
fish than and end up cooking me some fish(well, & nbsp; that's no longer
vegetarian is it?)...probably they can't cook vegetarian food
properly? & nbsp;
Also, my mum is very worried about my diet...my dad on the other hand
is keen on searching more information on vegetarianism himself
(although he eats more meat than my mum) and then & nbsp; end up supporting
my diet and regard it as very healthy!! & nbsp; tho my mum's still not
convinced and always try to sneak some mince meat (not visible) in my
food, and then pick it out (so that there's always some left) and
then & nbsp; say it's ok for vegetarians & nbsp; :( ...made it look so hard
work that i'd feel guilty if I don't eat it and not being a good
daughter because I wasted her effort... & gt;_ & lt;
*faints*

, Victoria Froment & lt;veganvicky & gt; wrote:
& gt; Meateaters can be very defensive can't they?
