Guest guest
I would be curious to know what you all think about working with angels. I read a book by Doreen Virtue on communicating with them, and have mixed feelings. My first concern is: How do you really know that the entities you are dealing with are good? If I remember correctly from my childhood Sunday school, the category " angels " includes a lot of evil beings, as well... Not that I would trust church-based doctrine, but I still believe that opening us up for external interference may invite deception. Next question: aren't entities, angels, etc. (even the good ones) crutches we use to accomplish things we should do on our own? Third problem: ethical issues. It seems to me that people often end up asking angels to make their material life easier. I know this is common to all religious practices at an unreflexive, vernacular level. However, using one's direct access to angelic powers to, say, find a parking spot or win a lottery seems to defeat the purpose of being on a spiritual path in the first place. Last concern: once we start seeing angelic guidance in everything that happens, there seems to be a risk of fooling ourselves. Sure, it sounds comforting, but reading too much into everything that happens in our lives can also lead to plain gullibility or even obsession. I know people who think that, each time they get an angel picture in their junk mail, divine guidance is at work. I'd love to believe they are right, but I simply cannot. So, these are my two cents... What do you all think--what's the deal with angels? Happy holidays, Sel
