I have both the $50 two-piece plastic unit that makes 100 caps. This is the

one that has blue and orange pieces that get squeezed together with a

spring-loaded manual mechanism.

I also have the next version up which is $350-ish. It has the piece that

orients the capsules such that by pushing a button, all the capsules fall

into their holes with the caps facing up. This kind is available in larger

sizes that are made of stainless steel too, though they're more expensive (I

found them by searching for encapsulation machines for drug research).

The clear capsules that I generally get from one of my herb sources don't

always fit through the orientator easily and I have to manually poke them

through and often reorientate them with their caps up. I also have colored

capsules that I get from a capsule maker. They tend to be a hair smaller and

go through the orientater very easily making them much quicker to work with.

The $50 unit takes me about 10 minutes for one batch, while the $350 unit

takes me about 4 minutes. Saving 6 minutes every time you make a 100

capsules is significant to me. Once I got the $350 unit, I completely

stopped using the others but for when the nicer one is drying after a

cleaning or something like that.

I've been using my $350 unit for probably 5 years. There is a lot of plastic

parts, some of which have cracked, but it still operates just fine. If I

can't use this one anymore, I'll definitely buy another, though I would look

in to the stainless steel versions too.

I have the Profill 100 in my office:

http://www.capsuleworld.com/

Expensive, but it works flawlessly as long as it is cleaned regularly. If you

get it, make sure you get the loading block accessory. You can contact me

offline if you have any questions about it.
