Hi All, & Eric,

The original Yunnan Baiyao / Paiyao formula [

http://www.cbw.com/company/yunnanbaiyao/

or http://overseasdivision.yunnanbaiyao.com.cn/index/17.html ] is said to have

13 Meds and

to be a closely guarded secret [ ttp://tinyurl.com/ygw2yad ].

However, other companies manufacture different versions on Yunnan Baiyao. Some

list

ingredients; others do not, or list only some.

Below are the ingredients and ratios in 2 versions of Yunnan Baiyao " " :

FORMULA 1 [ http://tinyurl.com/yjd7j4c and http://tinyurl.com/ylcn4c2 and

http://tinyurl.com/ykxyfdp ]:

Tianqi / () Tianqi (Sheng)-Rx Notoginseng 40-40.7%

Lizhicao / Lizhihao / Sanyucao-Ajuga Forrestii 17-17.3%

() Shanyao (Huai)-Rz Dioscoreae 13.2-13.3%

Chuanshanlong-Rz Dioscoreae Nipponicae 10.2-11.5%

Laoguancao / Laohecao-Hb Geranii / Erodii 7.2-7.3%

Kuliangjiang-Rz Dioscoreae Parviflorae 6.0-6.1%

Bainiudan*-Hb Inulae Cappae 5.0-5.1%

* mistakenly called Niudan -Ox Gall in some datasheets

FORMULA 2 [ex WWW but cannot relocate the source]:

77.0 Sanqi / Tianqishen-Rx Notoginseng

6.6 Sanyucao-Clarke´ s Hb

5.0 Shanyao / () Shanyao (Huai)-Rz Dioscoreae Oppositae

3.9 Chuanshanlong / ?? Bixie-Rz Dioscoreae Nipponicae / Hypoglaucae

2.7 Laoguancao / Laohecao-Hb Erodii Stephaniani / Hb Geranii

2.3 Gaoliangjiang / Kuliangjiang- Rz Alphiniae Officiari / Rz Dioscoreae

Parviflorae

1.9 Bainiudan*-Hb Inulae Cappae / ?? ??Niudan (Bai)-Fel Bovis

0.6 Bingpian / Shexiang-Borneolum / Moschus

Other versions have

Baiji , Caowu

For veterinary uses, see http://savma.omnibooksonline.com/2006/papers/027.pdf

I had assumed that IF ingredients are listed, especially with % inclusions

listed also, that

professionals and the public could TRUST the veracity of the datasheets. But

Eric has his

ear close to the real world. Therefore, I find his comment very worrying:

Eric replied:

> The ingredients listed aren't the real ingredients, they are just

> jumping through the hoops to slide under the FDA radar.

If that is so, IMO the manufacturer should lose the licence to manufacture &

sell the product.

Eric also wrote:

> Actually, contrary to popular belief, the main ingredient isn't even Sanqi.

If that is true, it conflicts with the data mentioned in the formulas above, in

which Sanqi is

40-77% of the ingredients listed.

This kind of obfuscation by CHM manufacturers is great ammunition for enemies of

TCM.

Best regards,
