Osteoporosis is frequent in people with insufficient cholesterol to make

hormones needed to lay down bone. I see it a lot in vegans, especially

those who are athletes and whose menstrual cycles may be scant or

absent. Your sister may do much better with at least 3 eggs a day,

yolks uncooked (sunny side up, poached or raw yolk in a smoothie.)

Vitamin D is also essential, at levels much higher than currently

recommended. The best approach is to supplement then take a test to see

if blood levels of 25hydroxyD3 can be raised over 80ng/ml. I find that

it takes over 10,000 iu daily of vitamin D to raise levels, then a lower

maintenance dosage is possible. Heavier people or people with cancer,

heart disease or other diseases responding to Vitamin D may need even

higher doses.

To get it from the sun in summer it takes being in sunlight between 11am

and 1pm without sunscreen for at least 20 minutes and significant skin

exposure. Soap should not be used for 72 hours. I don't think there is

enough sun in Santa Rosa this time of year. In the winter you need to be

south of Atlanta to get the proper angle of the sun to make Vitamin D.

I also like giving nutritional beverages with an ounce total of nettles,

oatstraw and/or horsetail decocted in a liter of water and allowed to

steep overnight. Or I give Osteoherb from Herbalist and Alchemist. (I

have been avoiding the sea shells or long gu because of lead contamination.)
