Is shilajit what Dr. Lad and all other traditional sources claim, or is it animal excreta as the one web link claims? Guest guest Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I've seen shilajit deposits on the rocks in high Himalaya, near Badrinath, Uttaranchal. It seems to seep from the rocks. You can see it as dark streaks in the rocky mountains. Unless squirrels defecate bitumen deep into the rocks, it is highly doubtful they are the origins of the substance. I've heard the Russian mumiyo can be often found in caves. Anyone have experience with this? Or any idea on chemical or energetic differences between Russian, Himalayan or other varieties? The best quality shilajit I've seen was from the Nepali Royal pharmacy- (maybe now the Peoples' Liberation pharmacy) :-(. It seemed soft at any temperature, and would not get brittle or break like other kinds. Tibetan medicine speaks of different types, based on the presence of or resemblance to various minerals- gold, silver, copper, etc, but I haven't been able to find any of them specifically.
