Guest guest
Alon and all, The European species of angelica, which is the most commonly used species in Western herbology, Angelica anchangelica, is bitter, acrid, and warm. It is mostly used to transform dampness and quicken the blood. I am not aware of any literature that discusses its use as a supplementing herb. It is however called a tonic because it helps to transform dampness and quicken the blood, therefore it helps to " right " the body's wrongs when these patterns exist. There are several other species used, some in Europe and some in the US. Come on one of my trips this summer and you will see at least one species, Angelica brewerii. This species is used very much like qiang huo, in fact, I have been using it as a substitute for about ten years now and find it quite suitable.
