All,

Well I am biased as I have a manuscript awaiting publication on that very

subject but I have to agree with Z'ev and Bob.

Sarah, if you have a formula/list of herbs she is taking I can give you some

information as I understand it from the Chinese medicinal perspective.

Thomas,

Here's what she's taking:

1. Gonaxine (I think this is an herb/supplement mix)

2. days 1-14 of cycle: HE Salvia off, HE Angelica archangelica, Medicago sativa

3. days 15-21: Alchemilla vulgaris, Achilea millefolium

4. HE Lavandula off, HE Origanum marjorana, Humulus luppulus

5. Quotivit (some sort of combo preparation, I think)

6. H202 D6

7. Lepidolite D8

8. Plantanus orientalis, Vitis vinifera

For the straight ahead herbs I've mostly found out what they do. These other

supplements

I've had less luck with. And I haven't found much on P. orientalis or V.

vinifera.

The issue is that she now has a 15-18 day cycle. Based on my research I would

suspect

the A. archangelica may be responsible, since it can be used to induce

menstruation or

expel the lochia. The herbs in general seem to be quite moving, and a few are

classified as

phytoestrogens...Am I on the right track?

My patient is French and was prescribed these by her doctor in Paris. The

problem is she

lives in NY and hasn't seen him since last May, during which time her condition

has

changed. Might the herbs may be partially responsible for her cycle getting

shorter? I think

she's going to take a break from this regemen so we can see if/how the herbs are

complicating things. Then we'll reassess and probably start Chinese herbs. Thus

far I've

only done acupuncture, prescribed da zao/peanut tea, and made dietary

recommendations

(ie, foods to build blood & jing).

Btw, the short cycle started 1 year ago, after taking Clomid, but it may have

been gradually

getting shorter before. She wasn't very clear. She's 38, one child (4 years

old).

Prolonged labor w/ lots of Pitocin. She has a high FSH (couldn't remember the

number),

heavy periods w/ light red blood, mucus, and clots. She also has PMS (cramps,

anxiety,

irratability, mental depression, constipation then diarrhea w/ menstruation).

Other sx:

difficulty falling asleep, feels cold inside her body @ night, weak digestion,

stress

incontenence, frequent urination, nocturia. Pulse is thin and rapid, slippery

right guan,

weak left cun. Tongue is pale red, with some purplish hue, paler sides and

petecchia; think

white coat.

Thanks for your thoughts, input, etc.

Best,

Sarah
