Guest guest
Hi Bob Although I wouldn't mind becoming a Bodhisattva I suppose, my principle personal motivation for practicing Tonglin has been the reduction of my own suffering (probably considered quite selfish and un-Bodhisattva-like). Since I'm not trained to teach it, I just make a short explanation of it to certain patients, friends etc and recommend they check out the book on tape " When Things Fall Apart " by Pema Chodron from my patient library. I have gotten quite a bit of positive feedback (none negative so far) from people who have actually tried it and pursued it--again, to help remove one of the causes of disease (seven affects)not as treatment or therapy as applied to a diff dx. I have taught an " Inner Smile " workshop a few times but usually for donations since I'm not at the Instructor Level with the Healing Dao people yet. I have also used it as a guided meditation with patients who were open to it and to help them learn and internalize it. I guess I may need to rethink weather these are too sectarian to be appropriate in my TCM practice (as I highly respect your opinions). I guess I didn't ask but are you familiar with " Inner Smile " a daoist practice (hence Medical Qi Gong) and do you think that is also " over the line " so to speak? What types of " relaxation " exercises do you tout to your patients and how or where are they being taught to them and by whom? Thanks for the story of your ID. BTW, I admire and respect (and own most of) your TCM publications and use them just about daily to help me bridge the gaps in my ignorance and training. They have been indispensible to me in helping LOTS of people as I'm still a novice, (three years experience) live in a very isolated area and get quite a few complicated cases since there are not people like you around for them to see. Respectfully, Shanna
