Good quality fish oil supplements are tested for contaminant levels. I use

" super omega3 fish oils " from Carlson labs, & they use indedpendent FDA

approved labs to verify that their product is " free of detectable levels of

mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB's & 28 other contaminants. " Other good quality

supplements are similarly tested.

I read somewhere that fish oil products that have the cholesterol removed

also lose most of the contaminants in the process. I have no credible

source to back that up.

they concentrate in oils?

I was on the phone with a Carlson tech a few months ago and what he said

was they use a low temp. distillation process. Something like, they heat the

oil to a fairly low temp, then super cool it. The offending substances tend

to flocculate out and they clean the flocculation out.

There are a lot of companies doing this now. Most majors. Although

Carlson doesn't yet carry the cold distillation label yet, I think I convinced

then to do so in the future
