Heavy metals do not accumulate in the oils. One test showed no heavy metals in any cod liver oil tested. PCBs may be another matter, and I'm not aware of tests. Oxidation of any of the EFA is a problem. They are polyunsaturated, meaning they have multiple reactive sites that oxidize easily. Tests of cod liver oil on the market showed a range of oxidation from 2% to 50%. This may be why in some cod liver oil clinical trials the cod liver oil mad ethe patients worse.
