Ephedra (Ma Huang) ban is only a beginning on regulating herbal medicine. More herbal regulations will follow. The Congress will amend the “1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA)”. This is only a matter of time.

Now the question is: How to amend the 1994 DSHEA? Currently, there are two possibilities for the amendment of the 1994 DSHEA:

1. Amending it in a way similar to pharmaceutical drugs (Only MDs of Western Medicine can practice herbal medicine and prescribe herbs);

2. Amending it in a way that has been regulated and practiced in China [Only Doctors of (CMD) or experts with equivalent qualifications in herbal medicine can practice herbal medicine. MDs of Western Medicine are illegal to practice herbal medicine].

is , no matter where it is regulated or practiced.

It will be too late when the 1994 DSHEA has been amended in the 1st way above.

To prevent the 1st possibility from happening, and to lead the advent of the 2nd possibility to come, the Center for Holistic and Herbal Therapy (CHHT) has initiated a “Letter to the Congress”.
