Guest guest
Eti, I never feel I can be very helpful in such discussions as so much of my understanding of clinical realities is based on how patients look and feel. But I've got a couple of questions that might help you approach the diagnosis. A 60 year old male, pulses are deep and xu especially the kidney position. Just to make sure I understand what you're feeling, does this mean that when you press you feel nothing until you've pressed deeply and even then there is emptiness in the pulse? Tongue is pale and dusky especially at center, cracked and peeled at the sides. thin white caot. How severe is the cracking and peeling? suffers from lack of energy, To what extent? emotional, forgetful and cannot concentrate on tasks, Seems very attentive but has trouble recalling details and computing, feels overwhelmed at times. Foggy headed. How does he sleep? Has a milk allergy, if he consumes accidentally any milk product gets a dulloccipital headache which lasts for days and foggy head gets worse, has a hard time focusing. How is his digestion and elimination otherwise? I could use some help with herbs for him, and to figure out this pattern... he is currently in school and studying alot so this interrupts his life in a major way... What is going on in his life that is being interrupted? What is he studying? Why? What about his personal life? Sexual relations? Has he seen an MD? Is he taking any medications? Guest guest
Eti, Based on the research I did for Chinese Medical Psychiatry, mental-emotional problems have three basic disease mechanisms: 1. Lack of construction and nourishment of the heart spirit (qi, blood, yin and/or yang vacuity) 2. Evil heat harassing the heart (replete, vacuity, depressive, phlemg, damp, or externally contracted heat) 3. Blockage and obstruction (blood stasis and/or phlegm obstruction) While these are considered the proximate causes of all psychiatric disorders, in addition, liver depression often causes and complicates any of the above. At 60 years of age, it is likely for a patient to manifest a combination of repletion and vacuity patterns. However, if you keep in mind the three main mechanisms listed above, you should be able to parse out their signs and symptoms. Good luck and best wishes.
