Guest guest
Ken: The way mind createes meaning or places significance on experience are closely linked to social interactions; especially that of the primary caregiver in childhood. Neurobiologist Allan Shore says " the connection between meaning and interpersonal experience occurs because these two processes appear to be mediated via the same neural circuts responsible for initiating emotional processes. " Because, synapses are pruned during stress and trauma (probably what Bloom was trying to say), self regulation is fundamentally related to the modulation of emotion. This, arguably, makes the 5-Phases (wuxing) the most important model in CM. Ironically, it is the model least often applied---especially in Manaka's sense of control signaling. But the 50% mark probably does hit sometime during college raves. " Well, with the caveat that " the way mind creates meaning " remains an incompletely understood set of phenomena, I would agree. I take the same basic understanding from a good deal of the work presented by Tony and Hanna Damasio. > > Because, synapses are pruned during stress and trauma (probably what > Bloom was trying to say), I think Bloom was saying that only those neurons that become involved in survival oriented patterns of nerual activity survive. Those that don't become so involved self-destruct. Alon will provide us with the correct ratio. self regulation is fundamentally related > to the modulation of emotion. I agree that the 5-phase model is fundamentally important. In fact, it is the subject of a book in progress that traces the significance of the number 5 through many aspects of traditional Chinese thought and artifact. It is closely related to a concept that Joseph Needham touched on, namely the ancient Chinese concept and attitudes about time. Ken
