Guest guest
Julie, I don't have any suggestions about herbs prior to hearing the differentiation, but one thing that I often recommend to my patients with constipation is daily abdominal self-massage from lower right quadrant upward, above the level of the umbilicus to the left and down to the lower left quadrant in a circular direction following the location of the large intestine. Just the physical movement can support the natural action of the peristaltic waves of the colon, assuming that there is no problem with the peristalsis. I also recommend asking the patient to complete a week-long daily dietary intake form. At least part of the problem may be related to what he does or does not eat, e.g. potato chips, cheese, and chocolate milk? Know what I mean... I had a 80 year old with chronic constipation and insomnia who admitted himself for observation because he was suicidal he had had such little sleep. In his case, he had been addicted to diazepam/Valium for about 24 years, which was his cause for constipation. Once we got him off the Valium (7-Forest Ardisia 16 for smoking cessation worked for the Valium addiction), his natural bowel habits eventually came back). Guest guest
I have a section in my blue poppy book (acute abdominal syndromes) on acute abdominal obstruction. You can adopt the information for non-acute cases as well. Alon
