Guest guest
Hi all, From your experience or from research/classics... what are the best times when patients should take their herbs? I know that taking herbs before meals is supposed to guide herbs to the lower jiao.. taking them after meals keep them in the upper jiao.. taking them with meals is supposed to carry them to the middle jiao... Sweet tonic herbs can go with food, bitter dispersing herbs should be separated from meals... 1/2 hour before meals or 1 hour after meals is standard operating procedure.... Any other ideas for optimal absorption/ metabolism / elimination? from a traditional Chinese or contemporary global perspective? Thanks! -- "" www.tcmreview.com
Guest guest
my acupuncture practitioner (Taiwanese) has me take my formula 1/2 hour before the time of the channel we're trying to treat. ie - for a formula draining heat in the heart, take the herbs at 10:30am; nourishing the spleen, take @ 8:30am, etc. of course, this fits his approach, which is to use small dosages of mostly classical formulas, taken once a day. another practitioner I've seen (Chinese American) has a similar, but more general approach - take formulas treating upper burner issues (for me, usually issues with my lungs) when I get up in the morning, and Yin nourishing formulas before bed at night.
