Guest guest
I have great news about my very sick kitty, Simba, who I wrote about. By late Wednesday night the vets at the hospital he was staying at were telling us that he was suffering, he had zero chance of survival, and we should put him down. He could barely breath and we were told he was in a semi-comatose state. He had not produced urine in days. I had found antifreeze in the alley that he sometimes hangs out in, and so I asked a vet what antifreeze would do. He said that it would cause tons of tiny crystals to form in his kidneys, blocking them. So I took a chance and gave him a Golden Flower remedy called, " Amber transforming formula " for kidney stones. I gave him a high dose--2 pills every 2 hours throughout the night. By 6 am he was urinating and all the levels had gone down!!! He was even purring! Now he is home with us! All of his vets are calling this a medical miracle. With numbers that high and zero urine that long, they've never seen anything like it. But now I am worried because I feel uncertain about what to do from here. He is very lethargic and hardly eating anything. We have him in subcutaneous fluids, but that's not enough if he doesn't eat. Also, we've been told that with the kidneys being damaged that much they will not fully recover. I'm seeing some incontinence. He uses the litter box most of time, but a few times he hasn't. I have found his bed wet underneath him and one time he pooped in his bed. Also, a couple of times he has gone into our bathroom and urinated on the rug. Strange behavior--makes me wonder if there might be some brain damage. So if anyone has advice about herbs or acupuncture at this point, that would be great. Two main issues: no appetite and kidney issues. I gave him some Liu Jun Zi Tang a couple times and tried adding Pei Lan at another point. I'm afraid to do anthing with his kidneys at this point because I don't know where he is on the excess/deficiency scale. Clearly the thing that almost killed him was an excess condition--so I don't want to move to tonifying too fast for fear that there is still some excess in there that could get worse. I gave him the herbs for crystals from Wed night until Saturday night and then stopped. Sunday and today I haven't given him any herbs. So probably the safest route would be to focus on stimulating his appetite and leave his kidneys alone for now. Not sure how to do that though since I didn't see any improvement with the Liu Jun Zi Tang, with or without the Pei Lan. Sha Ren makes me nervous because I've been told that it actually also goes to the kidney, even though you don't see that in the texts. I don't have a very good understanding of why his appetite is so low. Is it because the toxins are making it lower? Or is it because of dampness accumulated from when he was given IV fluids that he didn't process? He could barely breath Wed night before I started giving him the herbs because his chest was so congested from the fluids. Thanks for any ideas! Guest guest
One thing I should add in case its missed, this is a 10 month old kitten--so very young. So its not the same as an older kitty with kidney disease who would for-sure benefit from kidney tonics. However, since he went through this he is definitely going to have some kidney damage that will not recover, so at some point kidney tonics will be important. Guest guest
Too bad it wasn't confirmed by looking for oxalate crystals with a cysto........if it were antifreeze poisoning, it can be reversed by administering ethanol IV. At this point and without a real diagnosis is probably too late.
