Guest guest
Dear Dr Nguyen As the saying goes.... " you hit the nail on the head " . You ask about the real issues of life UNDER the allopathic reign. The FPD is just another " dream degree " following closely behind the " Masters " and the NON-PhD DAOM. Nice and Costly..... but not necessary and will definitely NOT give us any parity on any level nor any jobs. Just more money for the schools to make which then gets KICKED UPSTAIRS to the accrediting agencies who are making sizeable sums of money off the 50+ schools. That's the way this system works. The DCs with 100hrs of " who knows what " and the MDs/DOs with zero hours of education.....and all bill for acupuncture calling it whatever they wish including having the nerve to call it acupuncture. And now we hear that PTs are performing acupuncture under the manipulation of the words " dry needling " and then hiding the billing by rolling it under PT billing codes........ thereby defrauding everyone. Guest guest
Nam, This issue is not simply about a degree coming with an employment guarantee (there is no such thing). These are separate issues. Having a FPD or other doctorate tends to be more favorable for research as well as employment, and shows more serious dedication to one's education. The OM profession was slow to react and now all manner of other professions are borrowing acupuncture or even Chinese herbs. I would venture that you will not likely see any serious seminars that expand your biomedical understanding and allow you to practice greater scope of practice. This latter aspect of our education was not meant for diagnosis but refer, and better communication with our providers on our patient's behalf. Otherwise, we look ignorant. We need to attract younger students to this profession or it will cease to exist in this country as a viable career and the FPD is looked upon favorably by the students in the survey. Michael W.
