Guest guest
Hello Eastwest, Your diagnosis are so close, but my is just a little bit difference. A constant belching to me means Qi stagnation.... Gas or Qi is stagnated and wanted to escape. Besides this there was no other signs except migraine ( how often , and when did it start ? Was this happening long time before belching? If not then it is not related to Liver Qi attack Sp / Sto ) She is obese. This is why pulses are deep and most of the time are difficult to palpate or thready, thin... Same as tongue coat and color ( pale , wet, thin coating ). I do not see any signs of Sto Qi or Sp Qi deificiency nor Liver Qi excess and attacked Sp or Sto Qi.... But there is sign of damp ( obesity ), but no sign of phlegm. In this case we should check what kinds of food is she taking daily ( some foods produce gas such as beans and some family of broccoli, cabbage ... ) and maybe some medications she is taking may be the cause. If all of these are eliminated or restricted, then the treatment would be easier. What I see is a Qi def and Qi stagnation which foods were not properly digested and not properly transformed, further caused Qi and blood deficiency, and damp formed.......... This patient must also stay away from all sweet foods. For belching , I would choose Yangming channel ( more Qi and more Blood ). All of this, to me was from deficiency first and later became stagnation..... My Rx would be : Regulate Qi , transport Qi and tonify Qi..................... NO REDUCTION METHOD ( def must be tonified ). Tonify LI 4 and tonify S 36........... Better if moxa is also applied. After or during treatment, make sure there is no gas, by having her to take a soda " Pepsi or Coke " to verify your treatment. This is my treatment......... no more than 2 points ( only 2 needles, not 4 needles... one on each side )........... But if you need more than 2 points, then use only one more point, Du4 ( tonify Mingmen fire, moxa is better ) Nam Nguyen
Guest guest
Thanks for replies. Question re: gallbladder - it was removed several years ago. She had no ashi's in abdomen, either. Dr. Nam, the reason I felt there was liver involvement is because she had endometriosis and an ovary removal; the migraines started 10 years ago when her mother died; the belching started a year or so later. The headaches and the belching are occuring more often lately. So if the belching is due to qi stagnation, wouldn't the underlying cause be Liver stagnation? I'm not disagreeing with what you said, just trying to understand. Obviously my diagnosis was incorrect and/or my points choice was wrong. Guest guest
Dear Eastwest, Your diagnosis may be close, but mine is only different. If someones passed away, the living one would be sad rather than angry. If sadness appears, Qi will be depressed and slowed down and becomes stagnated. Sadness will consume a lot of Qi ( 2 reasons, not eat well, not slêep well ). There will be lethargy, laziness , also mental will not be clear and sound. If the living one became angered, he or she must expose chest discomfort ( QI stagnation ), abdominal discomfort ( Sp / Sto Qi stagn ), also headache especially at temporal ( Liv & Gal ), not at vertex ( Liv & Ki ), the wholehead ( deficiency ), back of the head ( Ki & UB ), frontal ( Yangming )........... But the most obvious sign ( anger for no reason, with red face, insomnia, chest and hypochondriac pain, bitter taste, headache fêel like tightness as cloth wrapping ); and some signs of excess ( fire or phlegm stagnation... ). But if it was an excess problem ......... Pulse must be full or wiry, tongue coat must be thick ( does not matter white / yellow )... tongue must be dried and crack... Not pêeled coat and red........... In excess, SEDATION IS A MUST ( liv 2 , LI 4 )... or blêeding LI 11. BECAUSE I sêe no excess in this case................. Just a few times of anger will not cause Liv Qi excess and attack SP Qi......... It must be a repeated ...... and must be for a long time of repress of anger. Nam Nguyen...........P.S : I maybe wrong. But this is what I can come up with. Any other thoughts , or any inputs ??????????? All are welcomed into this case to help our friend Easwest.............. Thanks
