Guest guest
Hello group. I had a couple of interesting visitors today at the clinic who were very interested in looking around my herbal pharmacy. I'll reproduce the title on the card below with name removed: First Name Last Name SITC Officer United States Department of Agriculture APHIS Plant Protection & Quarentine Smuggling Interdiction and Trade Compliance Fortunately, I had all treatment rooms full and it was very apparent that I was busy. They asked if they could look at my pharmacy. My office manager politely said that I would have to give them a tour and that now was not a good time. Meanwhile, my little brain is trying to determine if this is a request and if I had a choice of if I needed to ask for a search warrant. My question is what herbs are the USDA interested in right now? For instance, I know that Tu Si Zi is really a problem, which is a drag, since getting the bing (cake) form limits my abilty to do pao zhi. Are there any others? For instance, no ma huang will be found any where in my clinic, since I don't want to open that can of worms with the government. The Officers were very nice and polite and the reiterated that they were just there to be a resource and provide help. I get that they were sincere, but a business card like that doesn't exactly foster warm snuggly feelings. I want to foster good relationships with them, since they obviously know I am here. Any thoughts and suggestions about how to deal with the situation would be most helpful. David Toone, L.Ac. Guest guest
Hello David, I don't know why you had the FDA but I just had a recent trip to the US where the issue of GMP for herbalists was raised. I have a product that can help deal with part of this process (traceability and stock management). Currently it works on PC but there are plans to develop it as an app for iPhone and Mac. I am currently altering it to produce labels for receiving stock and to work with Dymo printers for user customised labels. Please contact me off list: info if you wish.
