gou teng

hi evryone

 

i am reading the commentary about gou teng from the materia medica by bensky and

there is something i dont understand. bensky says that the herb is " light,

clearing and cooling, not only draining fire but also setteling wind " . how can

the lightnes of gou teng relate to his ability to treat internal wind? i

understand how it helps gou teng in his secondery function to release the

exterior but how can lightness clear internal wind?
