Guest guest
One Year Clinical Mentorship in Chinese Herbal Medicine Evan is opening this up to people who just want to attend one or two sessions. I have enrolled in the full program and find Evan a good teacher and the program will definitely benefit my practice. This is a one year course in Chinese herbal medicine focusing specifically on clinical training and continued development of the Chinese herbalist. All of the teaching will be integrated into a clinical context. Herbal clients will be seen by a small group of practitioners led by the instructor. Emphasis will be placed on practical diagnostics and clinical skills. A historical and philosophical context will be given to the formulas prescribed. The clinical class meets six Saturdays during the year. In alternating months with the clinical classes, students will schedule individual time to speak with the instructor about herbal clients and personal development as an herbalist. Goals of the course are: Deepening and expanding diagnostic skills: tongue and pulse diagnosis. In addition, we will explore morphological diagnosis, physiognomy and wu xing shi yao (medicine without form) Gaining proficiency in the use of raw herbals: we will focus on constructing customized formulas for each client. We will look at both modifying classical formulas and developing our own formulas based on classical strategies Introduction to pao zhi (prepared medicinals): We will explore how processing herbs (for example, wine frying) changes the properties and enhances the subtly and specificity of formulas Gaining a deeper understanding of the philosophy behind the classical herbal formulas: we will explore how every formula is giving us a philosophical perspective on the how to re-establish harmony in the body Gaining a wider range of clinical experience and confidence as an herbalist Expanding the scope of conditions and pathology one may address safely with herbal medicine Prerequisite: Students must have completed a certified herb course Cost: $150/session Dates: November 15, 2009 and January 24, 2010 Location: 1917 Eye Street, Suite 200, NW, Washington DC 20006 Instructor: Evan Rabinowitz Evan is a graduate of the Traditional Acupuncture Institute, Maryland.
