Hi All, & Kath,

What herb is TIAO-SHEN in the formula below? At least two herbs are

called Tiaoshen:

(1) Soroseris umbrellata / rosularis [ http://tinyurl.com/m84xve ] and

(2) Hemerocallis plicata [ http://tinyurl.com/mftfp5 ]

This is a rare formula. WWW has little on it, even in Chinese.

One Chinese article [Google translation at http://tinyurl.com/pqzbhe &

corrected in Wenlin & with some data from Bob Flaws' article [see near end]

says:

Suhe Tang - Perilla + Mentha Dec contains:

Bohe (Nan) 30g [Release Exterior~ Cool + Acrid; Clear Heat; Enter LV + Kill

" Demon " (Rugan Shagu); Disperse LV; Move LV Yu; specific for Gu

conditions];

Qinghao 30g [Kill " Demon " + Release Toxin (Shagu Jiedu)];

Tiaoshen 24g [Clear LU Fire, Lessen Oedema + abdomen distension];

damaging SP];

fever];

Chuanxiong 6g [Release Exterior];

Calm Shen];

make Dec + serve to Tx " Snakes & Demons " [many gastrointestinal

infections & parasites associated w malnutrition / Ganji, SP Xu &

parasitism]

USES: Tx " Demon-strike " (Zhonggu); Topical to Kill " Snakes " + Release

Toxin (Wai Shashe Jiedu), Release Toxin + Clear Toxin in poisoning, SP

Xu-malnutrition-parasitism " Demon-strike " (Zhonggangu), " Snake-Demon-

strike " (Zhongshegu), " Swelling-Demon-strike " (Zhongzhonggu), " Epilepsy-

Demon-strike " (Zhongdiangu);

MODIFICATIONS: for " Snake Demon " (Shegu), add Baizhi 30g, Sanqi 6g;

for constipation, add Cigucai 30g

That FORMULA was used to Expel " Demons & Snakes " - See: Fruehauf,

Heiner, " Driving Out Demons & Snakes, " Journal of , UK,

#57, May, 1998, p. 10-17

Bob Flaws has a variant (Modified) formula - JIajian Suhe Tang. See its

details at www.bluepoppy.com/hguidecd/pdf/moperill.pdf

phil:

thank you for posting this. the rationals of the Gu herbs for killing

snakes and demons seem quaint; however, in researching the subject, the idea

can be applied to parasites, candida, fungi and tick borne pathogens. the

freuhauf article is an interesting read. it's a curious list of foods to

avoid. freuhauf also includes sugary foods.
