Guest guest
This will be my first time working alongside an MD at a fertility clinic. A client requested I do 'IVF Acupuncture' on her before and after the transfer. She wants 'her uterus relaxed and receptive' before transfer (she had this done before with success and that is how it was described to her) and then the needles are switched around right after transfer to encourage implantation. I have seen a few ideas on this but was wondering if there is a standard protocol (point combination) that everyone uses. Unfortunately she called me so late there is no time to get a pattern differentiation on her or even interview/diagnostics. Thanks for last minute help. Guest guest
Brian: I use a protcol from Randine Lewis's book, " The Infertility Cure. " It is at my office and not here for me to outline the points. If someone else on here knows them, that might be faster. I can get it today and let you know tomorrow. Anne Anne C. Guest guest
In her book, Randine suggests using 4 gates, sp6, pc6, sp8, sp10, st36, st29, du 20 ear: intertragic notch and triangular fossa I have never used this protocol, so I can't comment on it. Guest guest
My understanding was that the acupuncture helps the client relax and keep the stress hormones under control. I use St 36, K 3, Yin Tang, ear shen men, ht 7 ( or PC 6), and occ Liv 3. I think this protocol is linked to Eastern Harmony Clinic. You usually don't meet the MD but I found that it pays to befriend all the office staff, arrive early, introduce yourself to EVERYBODY, hang out and talk afterwards and give everyone your card. I often got calls from clients saying " Someone at the clinic recommended you. " Some clinics also have a roster of Acs they call when the client wants acupuncture, you can ask about that and see if you can join it. PS. I charge more for these visits because I found I usually have to be there in the morning, but it is not infrequent that I have to wait, and I don't want to hassle the client with anything. I usually ask $175. Regards, Angela Pfaffenberger, Ph.D. angelapfa www.InnerhealthSalem.com Phone: 503 364 3022 - Ariel Solomon, L.Ac. Guest guest
Yes, this is Radine's protocol. She says the day before transfer and the day after transfer. Most fertility clinics have people there round the clock to do that. For my patients that go to a clinic with an acupuncturist, they have the transfer points done there. I could swear it was the day of the transfer (and can check). My clients all live at least an hour drive from these clinics. Now for those who are doing IVF and there is no acupuncturist on board, I just do the pre- retrieval points in my office on the closest day to their retrieval that I am working. Also on the transfer I do the pre- transfer points on the closest day to the transfer that I am working. The next time they come to see me, I am doing very easy treatments, off course checking the pulse and pattern. I am pretty conservative throughout the pregnancy. Before RETRIVAL only: The main goal is to build KI and SP before the retrival (me)  - Radine says to improve blood flow to the uterus and ovaries before retrieval. UB23, UB 32, SP6, and UB 57 for acupuncture. And if they can't get to an acupuncturist, have someone press on UB 23, UB52, UB 31, UB 32, UB 33 and UB 34 and SP 6 daily, prior to retrival. Before the Transfer - you want to do as much calming as possible - she says regulate liver and blood flow and calm the spirit and uterus, making the uterus nonreactive to the catheter and therefore more receipitve. Gates, PC 6, ear triangular fossa, ear intertragic notch, DU 20, Sp 6, Sp 8, Sp 10, St 36 and St 29. I have a friend who does a lot of acupuncture Fertiltiy work and has studied in Randine's internship program. When I first started treating fertility patient I was a bit nervous and contacted her for advice. She basically said look at what Randine has to say and her philosophy, and in the end your will treat your patient as you see fit. So it really all boils down to the pattern/element, goals for the patient at the time. I stay in the ballpark of what Radine says pre- retrieval and transfer, and then do my own things after - I am very conservative with pregnant women. Just me.
