Guest guest
Hi Butch, That paragragh about guns touched a nerve with me. Having just lost my husband to a massive head bleed on Dec 14, I changed my mind about having a gun. I live on Rt 1 Maine and altho I live in a rural setting there are crazies who live in my town that I wouldn't want to meet alone. So I am going to prepare myself just in case one of the crazies wanders into my yard. I don't know if I will load it :<) but having protection around will ease my fears.....besides I have three dogs--2 collies and 1 GSD--to alert me.... Bonnie <<<<<<<Our bedroom door is locked at night .. if a baddy were to break into our home I would probably call the cops on my cell phone .. the baddy could do little damage in the meantime. They would have to break into the bedroom to actually harm us. The 9 MM automatic pistol in the night stand beside my bed is not a collector item .. its not been taken out (except for routine cleaning) in a long, long time. I hope I never have a need to take it out except for cleaning .. but if the need arises I am prepared to use it in a rational manner. If one is not prepared to do this then they should not own a weapon. If one is opposed to ownership of firearms and they are faced with such an unfortunate situation .. its probable that they will adjust their opinion after the damage is done.>>>>>>>>>> --
Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, Barb, Sindy, Marcia .. other good folks .. Its heart warming to read such comments on this list. Turning the other cheek might be the right thing to do but those who hold (or have held) such beliefs are either perpetual victims .. or dead victims. > Nope, they should be hunted down like the rabid twisted evil nasties > the are and shot dead. Right .. we should use triple blade hunting arrows or Ebola virus tipped darts cause guns are bad. ;-) > Thus spake the bleeding heart liberal witch who hates guns and doesn't > believe in the death penalty. Even she, however, thinks some things > are just too evil and beyond redemtion to live. ;-) K Having often been rightly accused of being a Conservative in the midst of a Liberal minded News Group .. I won't tell y'all whether I agree or disagree. I do, however, believe that opinions can change based on one being faced with a significant emotional experience. Below is a fairly logical quote. ;-) " If we execute murderers and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers. If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred other murders, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims. I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call. " John McAdams - Marquette University/Department of Political Science, on deterrence. The topic of Capital Punishment brings up emotional reactions for folks on both sides of the issue and conflict for those who are undecided. I'm satisfied to leave the solution of Capital Punishment in the hands of the voters .. where I think it should be. Jurors hear testimony on many horrific crimes and then make tough decisions. There is a yearly average of 15,000 murders in the USA .. the USA has just passed 1,000 executions in a bit more than 30 years. Does this indicate that Capital Punishment has generally been reserved for the worst of the worst? Much attention has been given to the execution of 1,000 murderers. Some folks say the execution of a convicted murderer is, unto itself, a crime against humanity. Are the deaths and suffering of the innocent victims just statistics to be ignored? I claim no opinion. ;-) >>Naaa .. its Chaste Leaf or Berry (Vitex agnus castus) that men should >>avoid .. often makes them nauseous and temporarily reduces libido. > > Hmmmm....I'm thinking this would be good for registered sex offenders to > be required to do?? Barb Wouldn't work .. even castration or amputation wouldn't be sufficient cause its not only sexual gratification the sickos are seeking. Besides that, all sex offenders are not men. > amen > says the christian conservative mom who also has supernatural powers > bestowed upon her by her loving creator which teachs her to respect > all religions~! and unfortunately now and then see evil in people that > she finds hard to believe herself even though its mentioned in the news > nightly~ Just as we don't really measure cold, we measure the absence of warmth, and we don't measure darkness, just the absence of light .. its tough to measure or assign degrees of evil .. its the absence of good. In nature there's no good or evil but we destroy biting dogs, alligators that attack people or their pets and old or crippled mountain lions that are forced to prey on humans for food .. we justify these actions to eliminate dangers to mankind because so-called civilized thinking is that mankind and his possessions must be protected from wild beasts. Does this mean .. only 4 legged beasts? This confuses me sometimes. > wonderful job K, we're gonna convert you/me yet~LOL S Sindy .. inside all illogical, emotional bleeding heart liberal witches is a logical, rational, conservative angel struggling to get out. ;-) > Not Christian (but I love the beatitudes) Me too .. like Matthew 5:6 - " Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. " The innocent victims can not be satisfied but the families of righteous victims (and potential future victims) can be satisfied when predatory monsters are dealt with in a manner that totally and absolutely ensures no recurrence of such behavior. That's why they destroy the gaiters, dogs and mountain lions. If someone were to purposely harm my wife, children or grandchildren, I (and perhaps many others) might react in what some would call a rational manner and others would call an uncivilized manner. Our bedroom door is locked at night .. if a baddy were to break into our home I would probably call the cops on my cell phone .. the baddy could do little damage in the meantime. If one is opposed to ownership of firearms and they are faced with such an unfortunate situation .. its probable that they will adjust their opinion after the damage is done. > nor witch; mostly call myself a resolute polytheist seeking my own private > spiritualism . . . But do agree with both of you on this one. Seen too > many destroyed lives behind this. > Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com One of the difficult professional duties of any supervisor of police, especially young military or civilian police, is ensuring apprehended child molesters don't bump their heads when being placed in the patrol unit .. or trip and fall down (or up) the stairs when being lead to the booking desk. It doesn't take young cops long to learn that in many cases such " accidents " will be the only form of justice they see after lawyers twist facts and create victims out of the perpetrators. Civilization has decided that uncivilized behavior should be, in most cases, dealt with in a civilized manner. There are even today over 60 regional conflicts worldwide where man is treating his fellow man (and woman) in an uncivilized manner .. raping and murdering and such .. most in the name of religion. Negotiation is often (mistakenly?) claimed to be an effective method to stop such inhumane conflict. Perhaps taking the leaders (not the followers) of the opposing sides to a desolate island, issuing each a rusty, dull knife, chumming the water around the island to ensure endangered sharks are given a better shot at increasing their numbers (which will also pacify the environmentalists), would be a very civilized way to resolve these conflicts. ;-) There would be many opposed to this but if it were to go on a world-wide ballot, perhaps a consensus of opinion would support such a civilized, rational attempt to resolve the issues. Majority rule and such. Maybe in time .. likely after those reading this post have gone under snakes .. mankind will realize that continuing to build prisons and drain public coffers feeding two legged beasts is not a solution to protecting the public. Perhaps execution will also become obsolete. Perhaps medical doctors will perform brain operations on sociopaths and such and create passive zombies who will be given important jobs like cleaning public highways and digging irrigation canals. These zombies would earn their keep while helping their fellow man and they would be grinning like Cheshire Cats whilst doing so. Of course, this could only happen after the rational citizens overcome objections of the irrational citizens, and after elimination of organizations like the ACLU. ;-) Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
