Guest guest
Dear Group, I am new to this group and am looking for a herb I can take regularly that will help me feel more relaxed around others with particular regard to social anxiety. Any suggestions? I would like to add I have had epilepsy in the past, just incase someone might suggest something that can have adverse reactions. Guest guest
Jonathan, I take valerian... It smells like old socks but it works really well, have you tried hypnotherapy for the social anxiety? You can try chamomile as well. Valerian is really more for insomnia but it has been used to treat anxiety.. It's like herbal valium... Guest guest
Not only does it smell bad, if you use it regularly, you'll might smell bad too. Experienced that myself and finally gave it up. I was using it regularly for insomnia though. You might get away with occasional use. Susan H. It smells like old socks but it works really well, have you tried hypnotherapy for the social anxiety? Guest guest
I've used Valerian Root Herb (tastes nasty) for insomnia before, with success, though I interest in feeling more relaxed is that with a relaxed body you also have a relaxed state of mind... I haven't tried hypnosis with a hypnotist, though I have tried several CDs and found no help with those, have any of you used them? Guest guest
Well, I can only share my own experiences with insomnia, and I know that you know that what works for me, might not work for you. I've had insomnia since I was 11. At about 40 I finally got a little relief with lavender oil. I'd use just a bit on my pillow and under my nose and it really did help -- for a while. Now, I use Melatonin. My body adjusts to it and I have to back off for a few days occasionally, but other than that, it works well for me. Susan H. Guest guest
Jonathan I've tried a hypnotist before with great results. (I used him for my Trichotillomania {pull my hair out}) It worked until I got really anxious about money, and then it came back in spades... However I have found that some of the subliminal MP3's on the Nlp weekly website have helped me. There are several free MP3's you can download and I've had great results especially with the anxiety about public speaking (I'm an actress too.) I do the soaping and the aromatherapy, and massage therapy, energy work and other things on the side. Remembering to breathe deeply sometimes helps me as well. Guest guest
I, too, would go with essences for this rather than herbs... you might consider a consultation with an essence practitioner, or do some reading online to pick one for yourself. I've recently starting working with some Master's Essences... perhaps one of these could be appropriate for you: http://www.mastersessences.com/Pineapple_Essences.htm http://www.mastersessences.com/Lettuce_Essences.htm http://www.mastersessences.com/Strawberry_Essences.htm http://www.mastersessences.com/Tomato_Essences.htm -Josh >Jonathan, my favorite easy to carry around, easy to use on yourself or >others, is Bach Rescue Remedy. Guest guest
Hi Jonathan! Welcome to the group. Just a thought on hypnosis, you really may want to work with an individual. They will work with your personal needs. CD's can be great for relaxing, but often are tailored to the masses. Each person has a unique set of needs. A Certified Hypnotherapist can work with you to achieve the best solutions for you. Best of rest to you! ____________________ Blessings! Guest guest
Gayla! This is a great suggestion. Rescue remedy has gotten me through a few very tight moments. They also make a cream. Sometimes I will rub it into my temples if I have a headache or am particularly stressed. ____________________ Blessings! Guest guest
Hi Jonathan, You wrote: I have had epilepsy in the past Does that mean that you no longer do? Personally, for situations like yours, I would suggest Bach Flower Remedies rather than herbs. Perhaps a combination of 2 or 3, but what comes to mind at this moment is MIMULUS. Check it out at: http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/38/mimulus.htm Hope this helps, Michelle

Guest guest
Hi Jonathan, The herbs in the " Sleepy Time " tea blend by Celestial Seasonings not only make a tasty tea, but also can help get a person into a relaxing mood. It is especially effective if it is made a part of the daily routine - such as the " nightly tea ritual " , where a relaxing atmosphere is set up and the soothing tea can be enjoyed - and having time to curl up with a good book would be even more optimal *Smile* Chris (who hasn't had a chance to regularly sit down and read a good book in a LONG time - so if you do get to do what I mentioned above, I will live vicariously through you for now <grinz> Think left and think right and think low and think high.
