I've been doing a bunch of end of year cleaning (still working on it

*lol* ;)

Also been doing the daily and weekly chores of course, and I wanted to

talk a bit about cleaning and what we use to clean. Some of the

commercial items out there can make us sick! Read about some of the

potentially dangerous ingredients that are in common cleaners ....

http://es.epa.gov/techinfo/facts/safe-fs.html

Of course instead of using conventional products we can easily make our

own cleaners. I do it all the time. Its not a hard thing - to replace

all purpose cleaner, just mix up some basic household items such as

liquid soap, vinegar, baking soda, borax, lemon juice, and either EO's

or Hydrosols and you're good to go.

I especially like to use oils (and hydrosols) of oregano and lemon

myrtle in my cleaners for rooms like the bathroom and kitchen, and

sprays for small surfaces (like doorknobs, etc ..). It gets my house

clean, I'm not adding to the overuse of anti-bacterial agents that are

in some commercial cleaners and causing all sorts of problems such as

creating MRSA style " superbugs " , I'm not getting sick from fumes (such

as chlorine), and I don't have to worry about my kids getting a hold of

the cleaner and getting poisoned.

I just cleaned my bathrooms (we have 3 of them in this house) and it

smells so fresh around here - lemon myrtle-y :)

Most of the time, I use cotton dish rags for all my cleaning and I just

toss them in the wash bin at the end of each day. I hardly ever use

sponges around here, but when I do I am sure to toss it in the

dishwasher (and/or nuke it for about 20 seconds) every night to kill any

nasties growing in there, and lots of nasties end up growing in sponges

- read about it here: http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/1031002316.html

I do have to rave about one sponge like product though - this thing

called the " Magic Eraser " by Mr. Clean. Its not natural like my cotton

rag *lol*, but this eraser thing is amazing for some hard to deal with

stuff! It also uses no cleaning agents, just water. Its my favorite

thing for doing the tubs, shower and stains on the kitchen counter that

nothing else wants to get out.

Anyway, to read more about cleaning your home in a " non toxic " manner,

Happy New Year. May it bring prosperity, health, happiness and wisdom to

us all!

Chris,

Where is a good Cheap place to get bulk orange oil ... our new house requires we

clean the wood floor with it or it will void the warrenty.

Thanks

Vicki P.
