Guest guest
....yep, shingles is closely related to herpes virus. (So is both chicken and small pox) I have herpes simples type 1 (upper body) which I'm very thankful for, only presents itself on my lips (read: cold sores) and is extreemly painful. One of the reasons you can't ever be rid of it, is it lives in the nerve endings at the base of the spine. I did 2 separate series of small-pox vaccinations each for 6 wks shortly after graduating hs, as my dr had heard that this often arrests further outbreaks. Don't know for sure about how effective is it--but when I went into the Air Force, I had a letter from my DR and never needed to take another small-pox vac. My shot records were stamped world wide duty for small pox areas. When all the recent hoopla over new vac's in the event of a mass-outbreak, I figured I'll be fine. Although I have aciclovere (sp:>) to take at the first tingles of an outbreak, I also will start taking at least 500 mg of lysine. This really helps and if I take it soon enough, either totally eliminated a breakout--or vastly shortens it. I would think that as they are all in the same 'family' of viruses, that it would help with shingles, too. Topically, wouldn't neem and allantoin help? goody
