Guest guest
morning to all-- Although I was raised in a 'christian' (Lutheran, to be exact) household, I've always wished people: 'Happy Holidays', cause I've always been aware that there are OTHER ways to celebrate this time of year--and by saying that, it allows me to wish 'merry' on everyone--WITHOUT exclusion, or hopefully, diss-respect. I think what you say sounds nobel, BUT misguided, Our country was founded on christian ideals, these OTHER holiday's we see now are just to counteract OUR holiday, i believe channuah is NOT a holiday in Isreal, but thats not important. What IS important is that i can choose to either except or reject any greeting that i find offenive, and Happy holiday, seasons greetings ETC ETC i DO find to be offencive, i celebrate CHRISTMAS, like it OR not im NOT telling anyone to NOT do thier own thing, i want in god we trust on our money, in our schools, and YES school prayer is important too HOWEVER if you wish NOT to pray etc just keep still BUT DONT TELL ME & MY children not to, its not disrespect for anothers beliefs ITS them disrespecting mine and if you wish to have just seasons greeting in your place of business? THATS GREAT just know that i and many others will not buy in your store, if you dont think that Merry Christmas should be displayed? thats great, and all my money also says IN GOD we trust so id not step on your toes by useing anything with something on it that upsets you, what was missing in your letter was RESPECTING my beliefs, MY way of being, and i see your reasoning as WAY out of wack
Guest guest
these OTHER holiday's we see now are just to counteract OUR holiday, i believe channuah is NOT a holiday in Isreal, but thats not important. So are you saying non of these religious 'holidays' exsisted prior to Christmas? And are you saying, the only reason other holidays exist is because it's to put your holiday or make light of 'your' holiday? Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But to me, you're off the mark. As far as Chanukah, according to my son who lives in Isreal, it is a holiday. Perhaps not the way Christmas is, but it's celebrated. I'm Jewish and very proud of my beliefs, customs and traditions. To me, what you posted is not only insulting to Judiasium and other religions, it's a hair away from Hitler. I have many Christian friends, happily they're more open minded and respectful of others holidays, just as I am. I was raised to be respectful of others and their beliefs. I raised my children the same way. If you truly feel this way, I hope you attend church more than once a year. Guest guest
I find your message to be extremely offensive. So your country did not exist until it was founded on christian ideals? Seems to me you need to do some research. Not only did the USA exist long before the Mayflower arrived, the people on the Mayflower were looking to found a new life, free of religious intolerance. And to discount native americans as being godless only underscores your own intolerance. Why does God have to be White Anglo Saxon Protestant - and not exist in any other form. Your own constitution guarantees religious freedom - pity you cannot live by it. mary - sounder8834 Tuesday, December 27, 2005 7:40 AM Dear GOODY morning to all-- Although I was raised in a 'christian' (Lutheran, to be exact) household, I've always wished people: 'Happy Holidays', cause I've always been aware that there are OTHER ways to celebrate this time of year--and by saying that, it allows me to wish 'merry' on everyone--WITHOUT exclusion, or hopefully, diss-respect. First, the USA did not exist until 1776. Second, the Mayflower passengers were looking for a place to practice their religion. Most early American settlements were extremely intolerant of any religion other than the one they chose to celebrate. There were only a few places that truly allowed people to practice their conscious -- Pennsylvania and later Georgia. In between, it was pretty rough if you were something other than what everyone else was. Try a quick search on Mary Drer. Folks were far less tolerant then than they are now. Despite the fact that we don't always agree, at least we're not hanging one another. Susan H.
