Guest guest
Butch, Awsome wish for a Merry Christmas. Thank you! I don't post often, but way up here in Maine that I am, it didn't feel like a Holiday Season and just to be sure I checked with my kids to see how they felt, and they also said, something was off. Maybe the above normal weather we have had, although a few snow showers here and there and definitely Christmas eve and tonight the day after. We are gettting a wintery mix outside. I kept my job after a new company got the contract (seems they are up for contract every 5 years) and now that I have lived through it I will be ready for the next time, but in the process everyone lost their seniority and any acrued vaca time. So, we all, or most of us need to work holidays until we acrue new vaca time. But we get paid the extra to be there so I don't mind. I work for a Job Corps Center and absolutely love my job. We usually have around 20 or so kids that remain on Center as they cannot go home or have no place to go or would rather not. This year we only had 5 folks on Center. But boy did we have fun. Two folks from the Culinary department came in and cooked an absolutely lovely lunch for them and the staff that were working. Stuffed chicken breast, roast pork, mashed potatoes with fresh chives, gravy, mix veggies, rolls and butter, a beautiful vegetable salad topped off with blueberry or pumpkin pie. We gave the kids gift certificates to the Bangor Mall, Barnes & Noble Bookstore and Walmart. The got a cup and lots of candies filling it, and a little baggie filled with alot of little goodies, pens and pencils and an assortment of do dads. Later that night they were taken out to a local restaurant for a nice supper and then to the movies to see a movie of their choice. It is a nice time to spend more 1 on 1 time with folks too. Kinda of hard when the center is buzzing with all 350 plus students back and about when we are open. That will happen soon enough on Jan 3. I did have a quiet evening at home Christmas eve with my hubby and grandaughter opening our tree and eating some wonderful goodies. Am glad all the hustle and bustle is over for another year. I would prefer we just celebrate every single day and treat each and everyone one with all the loving kindness as we should but that is just my feelings about it. Hope all of you enjoyed time off and special times with friends and families during this Christmas, Hannakuh and Kuanza holiday. Warmly, Fran So, how was everyone elses holiday and Christmas? )) Michelle
