A few years ago, the price of vanilla skyrocketed, due to weather devastating the crops in Madagascar, political turmoil there, and the fact Coke and Pepsi introduced Vanilla colas. No way the demand could be met. Well, many farmers in many different countries planted vanilla vines. They're having bumper crops. The full free fall of the price hasn't happened yet, but it's a fraction of what it was in 2003 when the article was written. In fact, I read an article in the past few months that the farmers are crying because of the low prices. You might want to google something on that. http://naturalperfumery.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume Join to study natural perfumery " The Age of the Foodie is passé. Guest guest
Here: I googled for vanilla price plummet http://www.google.com/search?hl=en & q=price+vanilla+plummet & btnG=Google+Search 1/3rd the price of two years ago. The farmers, esp. in India, who were living on false expectations, are devastated. http://naturalperfumery.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume Join to study natural perfumery " The Age of the Foodie is passé. Guest guest
Interesting! Thanks, Anya. Good for us, bad for farmers it sounds like. I was thinking about that when I read the article-- " What a gamble " . -Josh
