I just found a sort of one on free names and I found my maiden name... It

was a HOOT.

My GGfather came over from Ireland and changed his name to Penders. No one

knows WHAT it was before hand. Turns out it's not Irish but German and

Dutch. So I guess that means that all the irish Penders' are " ours " .

What really gave me a giggle was the fact that my g.fathers name was floyd.

Apparently a very common name in the south and especially among Black men.

What's so funny? My g.father was one of the biggest biggots that came down

the pike. He married an Irish Lass (of COURSE, nothing else would do!) who

was 13 at the time. He had 3 children with her before he gave her a respite

by going off to WW2. While he was away, the kitten decided to play and ran

off and married herself a black man. Being the good Catholic Irish man that

he was gfather said " she's dead to me " , never divorced or anything. So my

gmother was a bigamist who had I think it was 8 more children.

Gfather raised his kids to be bigots too. My father, at the age of 18 was

lucky enough to have his apple orchard destroyed. Having no other way to

make a living he joined the Airfoce where all that crap was knocked out of

him. Perhaps not literally, but he did at least learn that his father was an

idiot (as well as his brother). Dad's the only one who maintains any sort of

contact with his half siblings. I think Aunt Debra was the only one who was

interested in any sort of relationship with her mothers family.

WHOOPS! Went off on another tangent didn't I?!

BACK TO WORK KATHLEEN!

And often she wishes that when they were born,

she had named one of them Bodkin van Horn,

Another one Binky, another one Moonface, another one

Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face

and so on and son.

The story of of Mrs Mc Cave, who had twent one sons

and she named them all Dave.

Dr Seuss, of course, hanging in my

head more than twenty years after

Kathleen,

if anyone ever writes the novel of your

grandmother's life, I want to read it!

Ien, whose name doesn't mean anything

(Ieneke is like a dimunitive of Ina.

Ina itself is just the ending of a bunch

of names)

Neysa, Gayla .. other good folks ..

I'm big time into trivia .. and the origin of names is a bit of trivia I

particularly enjoy. ;-)

I was trying to connect Gayla with the Russian-Ukrainian-Bulgarian names

Galya, Galiye, Galiya and/or Galina .. and though I couldn't do it .. I

still thought there was some connection somewhere cause when I track a

lotta Slavic and Russian names I find that they originated in ancient

Greece and Israel in the first place.

So when I tracked ALL of the above first names .. I found that they had

probably originated .. or were probably made from .. the Hebrew Abigail

http://www.biblical-baby-names.com/meaning-of-abigail.html

In the 1990 US Census .. Gayla ranked at the 24% mark for female names

of all ages in the USA. http://www.thinkbabynames.com/name/0/Gayla

I was at 36% .. though Butch is not really my name .. its a nickname

I've worn since birth. ;-) http://www.thinkbabynames.com/name/1/Butch

Interesting to me is the fact that when I track my last name .. Owen ..

with Welsh origins .. and then all the related names .. I see a Russian

name " Evgeni " popping up. That's my wife's younger brother's name.

http://www.behindthename.com/php/extra.php?extra=r & terms=owen

Seems to me that the ancients started with X number of names and after

that the rest of the world built on them. Maybe that means we really

are one people .. huh?
