I have haggled at grocery stores in Utah at the meat

counter and in the produce section.Sometimes it

works.Especially if they are trying to close up shop.

Thank you very much for the kind words. Tanya is to me beautiful in so

many ways .. and she does have a super nice, sweet smile. :-) I do

what I can to keep it on her face and its a pleasure to do so. Though

my smile is sometimes a bit hard to detect .. maybe due to practicing to

look stern throughout 30 years in uniform ;-) .. I am grinnin' a bunch

lately. :-)

I, also, am a stateside haggler! I try to grow what I can, but then I

bargain for whatever else I need. This works a lot of times! If you

are in a grocery store and know that a competitor has a better price,

most times, if you bring an ad to show them, then they will match the

price.

I also don't do much of my grocery shopping at the " mega-marts " . I

belong to a food co-op and also try to buy as many things " locally "

as

possible. I try to barter with local farmers and trade products I

have

for products they have that I need. This system is brilliant and I

highly suggest that more people get back to the bartering of " olden

days! "

So, there are some things that I have to buy that I don't have a

negotiating leg to stand on because I am at the mercies of the market

(such as coffee, which I only buy thru companies whose product is

organic and fair trade!) Other things, I have to travel quite a

distance to procure (60 miles one-way), but make the effort for the

health of my family. I also notify all of my friends when I am

heading

to the organic flour mill (yes, we are blessed to have one in our

state) or to the organic apple orchard. The trip is worth the while

if

several families benefit from the excursion, and it is much better

for

the environment if I make 1 trip a month to gather food for our

collective families than to have it transported across the country to

our local grocery!

Once I did the research on what all of the toxic

pesticides/herbicides and genetically modified organisms are doing to

our bodies, it made me a believer in the organic lifestyle! So, I am

willing to haggle, but it has to be on my " organic " terms :) Warm

regards and continue to be,

I wish I could afford to feed my family just

organic.Just not in the budget(not if we are going to

eat everyday)I too grow much of my own produce.(I love

fresh things!)

We have a Wild Oats here and their prices are so high

I can't even get close to feeding a family.
