Guest guest
Hey Debbie, > Lurker here. > > I have to say Butch, that little town of yours is just way > too cute. Tucked in between those mountains. Thanks .. it is a very nice little town .. in a deep valley twixt green mountains .. has a major river and a smaller stream running through the valley .. trout and other fish abound there. Half the folks in Friendsville can trace their ancestry to John Friend. The even have an national association for the relatives of that feller. http://www.friendfamilyassociation.org/index.html If you blink your eyes .. you'll pass through Friendsville without seeing it. ;-) The river is white water country .. rated Class IV-V rapids, with steep drops and a stretch of white water that is several miles long. The river is not for the faint of heart; it drops 116 feet per mile. Those folks who are interested in rafting can contact .. http://www.mtstreams.com/UpperYough.htm .. more information can be found here .. http://www.americanwhitewater.org/rivers/id/753/ My company is located 150 yards or so, on the left, past the bridge over the Youghiogheny River .. folks cross that when coming into town. We're a 20 second walk to the Post Office and a 10 second walk to the bank .. and a 3 minute walk from one end of the town to the other. ;-) Photos of the town, the area and my store at Oils & Herbs photo section at .. lst They are the 1st set there .. marked as " Anatolian Treasures, Friendsville, MD. " There are three towns called Friendsville that I know of .. all the same origin (I am told) .. in TN, PA and MD. > I'm about 2 hours up 219 from you in PA and we (dh, kids and I) > decided to take a drive a couple of Saturdays ago. Ended up > stopping at your shop but found it closed. ( Sorry they missed you .. generally we are open five days a week .. had to work last weekend due to getting the special Rose Otto orders out. > Oh well. The day was great for a ride and again, I just can't > say enough how cute the town was tucked all in there. My town > is even smaller. ;o) Glad you came by. If your town is smaller than Friendsville (pop: 597) folks better not blink their eyes passing through it either. ;-) > I do hope you're open (barring weather) this coming Tuesday. I > have to go right past your place on a trip heading out to Texas. > I *really* want to have extra oil of oregano with me at all the > travel stops along the way. My folks will be there and will welcome you fer'shur. :-) For those who are into trivia .. here's some on Friendsville, MD. http://www.hardingsginsengfarm.com/friend.htm http://www.city-data.com/city/Friendsville-Maryland.html http://www.mountainattractions.com/story/27 http://www.mdmunicipal.org/cities/index.cfm?townname=Friendsville & page=home http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendsville%2C_Maryland http://www.jefpat.org/NEHWeb/Assets/Documents/FindingAids/18GA23-%20Friendsville\ %20Finding%20Aid.htm > Debbie Margaret and the crew will be looking forward to meeting you. Have a nice one .. and y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com >>my folks in Maryland .. you did not hear from them yesterday >>because the company was closed due to a snowstorm in the >>Appalachians.
