Sorry to hear this! I dont have any sources but recently heard that the problem with nuts is that they are all processed at the same site... ie, peanuts (which are NOT nuts) along with regular nuts. I hope the issue is resolved to his best interest soon. Hugs Neysa
Guest guest
Hi Folks, Last night my 2 yr old ended up in the ER with a severe allergic reaction to some hazelnuts that were in the ravioli I made for dinner. Thankfully he is fine now, but he was totally covered in huge welts (hives) and was having breathing issues for a while there. I have yet to call my regular doc today cause its still early, but I was wondering if anyone has any good informational resources about the whole nut allergy thing. Thanks! *Smile* Chris (your very tired list mom who got to bed after 1 AM) Think left and think right and think low and think high. Guest guest
Oh Chris, that must have been scary! So glad you're little one is OK. I was in a restaurant once when a woman's throat closed up after eating something that had been cooked in walnut oil. Apparently, for those with nut allergies, it doesn't take much to cause a very strong reaction. Take good care, Michelle

Guest guest
Holy SCHMOKES! Man I'm sorry to hear this Chris. Nut allergies are one of the worst and most insidious of the food allergies (from what little I know of it). I glad he's okay now. That's a real bummer. Any nut allergies in the families that you know of? Unfortunately restaurant staff sometimes are not aware of the severity of nut allergies. Sometimes it is not obvious that a dish contains nuts - " Cold Sesame Noodles " common to Chinese restaurants contains peanut butter, and I heard egg rolls are sometimes sealed with peanut butter. Several years ago, a restaurant served chili to a peanut-allergic customer, because the server did not know the chili contained peanut butter. So, if your child eats with you in a restaurant, I would recommend that you insist the server check with the chef about nuts, and make sure you impress upon the staff that this could be a life-threatening allergy. (I have found simply saying " no nuts " is not enough, you need to emphasise the medical consequences.) If your child's doctor prescribed an Epi-Pen Jr, make sure you have one wherever your child goes. I would also suggest checking the FDA website for food recalls (for nuts not declared on the label). Be careful of food purchased in ethnic markets, as I have noticed sometimes the ingredient labels are not complete. Best of luck to you.
