Guest guest
Hey Ien, (snipped a bunch) I agree with the statement on Oregano .. below. I'll spare y'all all the details as to why I agree, though I might bore you with the list of organizations. ;-) > I personally use both herbs and essential oils. I have tried ravensara, > bee balm, and many of the other essential oils regarded as effective, but > in my opinion, wild oregano is superior to the others. Over the years I have presented to this list (and others) many, many studies showing the effectiveness of Carvacrol (the active ingredient in the Origanums) against a myriad of microbial critters .. there is a very long list of these critters that start to sing their Death Song when they come into contact with Oregano essential oil. There are also many studies from around the world that totally support this position .. from Weber State University; Harvard Medical School; Johns Hopkins; University of TN at Knoxville; Vanderbilt University; Health Explorations Trust, Scottsdale, AZ; Biotics Research Corporation, Houston, Texas; Aromatic & Medicinal Plant Group, Scottish Agricultural College, Auchincruive, South Ayrshire, UK; Agrotechnological Research Institute, Wageningen, The Netherlands; Dpto. Mexico, D.F.; Department of Food Microbiology and Biotechnology, Hassan II Institute for Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Rabat-Instituts, Morocco; Dermatology Department, Ochsner Clinic, New Orleans, LA; Division of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, LA; Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Sciences, Fes Morocco; Biology Department, Faculty of Sciences and Arts, Anadolu University, Eskisehir, Turkey; Department of Medicine II, University of Goteborg, Sweden; Unite de recherche; Substances Naturelles, Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie, Rabat Institut, Rabat, Maroc; National Research Centre, Dokki, Cairo, Egypt; Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Wisconsin; Laboratory of Botany, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Besancon, France; Laboratoires de Pharmacognosie, Faculte des Sciences Pharmaceutiques et Biologiques, Lille, France; Centre de Recherche, Nestec SA, Vers-Chez-les-Blanc, Lausanne, Switzerland; Institute of Technology and Storage of Agricultural Products, Volcani Centre, Bet Dagan, Israel; Department of Microbiology, Tokyo Dental College; Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, School of Medicine, University of Bergen, Norway; a Little Old Lady in Tennis Shoes from Burbank, California .. and many, many others. How often can these folks be wrong? I live this reality .. I have not taken an over the counter or prescription medication since early 1995 .. and on those RARE occasions when I get a bug .. I kick its butt inside of 24 hours .. normally less than 18 hours. Prevention of colds and flu requires keeping the immune system tuned .. and kicking the Big Bad Bug Butts as soon as we get a hunch that they are trying to cause us harm. I am now .. and have been convinced for the last eleven years .. that there is no more effective preventive measure .. or weapon to totally destroy .. these critters .. than is Origanum. Matters not which Origanum we choose, though those that are Carvacrol rich would be my first choice. > Hope that helps Fer'shur .. me too. ;-) > Ien in the Kootenays Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com THE Source for Wild Grown Turkish Origanums > ******************************* > Stop. Guest guest
I lurk on this list - learning from all of you. After learning a year or so ago (from Butch) about the power of Oregano I purchased some Oregano hydrosol from him. Every day (at least from Sept - June) I put the oreg hydro in my drinking water. Now, I don't have any scientific proof or anything, but let me tell you this. Several times my family members have come down with colds. I may get a " touch " of it, but not as bad as others. My dh is currently fighting off a cold he came down with 2 weeks ago. I have had a bit of a sore throat off and on and a little bit of the sniffles, (it also may be attributed to seasonal allergies), but nothing more!!! I've my family to take the oregano, but oh no!! So let them suffer and I'll keep taking that oregano! Just thought I'd slip my oregano testimony in here! Back to lurking.
