commercial grade essential oils

Commercial grade essential oils are considered by many to be oils that come from

being re distilled or from inferior sources or even high temp distillation.

They are not considered therapeutic, pharmaceutical or aromatherapy grade as

they dont contain the therapeutic content that the 1st distillation contains or

the lower temp distillation has or the higher quality material used. Still have

the aroma though. Something manipulated by man I would consider synthetic or

partially synthetic, not commercial. Maybe I am misunderstanding, when you say

manipulated by man, exactly what do you mean? In what way? I found this

If you take a look around on the net there are many companies that have

commercial grade eo's that have been redistilled besides ylang ylang. Anyway, I

it is manipulated by man .. but there is a fine line there. Actually,

there is nothing natural about the process of distillation .. it is a

man manipulated process .. but for obvious reasons, we don't examine

that fine line so closely. ;-)

 

When an aromatic undergoes distillation it renders all of its oil the

first time around. It is not a normal procedure to redistill oils.

 

In the case of Melissa and Rose .. there's a redistillation (cohobation)

of the HYDROSOL .. not the plant material .. because the oil is highly

hydrophilic so the lion's share of the oil following distillation will

remain in the hydrosol. If they did not do this they would have a

Hydrosol with a large percentage of EO and very little EO to sell. This

is not the case for maybe 99% of the oils we use.

 

Commercial Grade is (in most cases) an oil that is not as is was when it

exited the distillation process. As I wrote below .. they are normally

made to order. I would also classify as Commercial Grade .. those low

quality pure essential oils .. that have not been manipulated but are

not high enough in quality to be considered as being Aromatherapy Grade.

An example would be the low carvacrol Oregano I discussed .. its pure

and not manipulated but its not Aromatherapy Grade.

 

Establishing standards requires .. and creates .. a lot of arbitrary

rules. But logic must come into play when interpreting those rules.

That's probably why we rarely find justice in a court room unless we

have a jury of thinking, warm blooded folks to put a little logic into

the arbitrary process. Even then logic is often overwhelmed by the need

to follow strict, arbitrary guidelines.

 

I reckon that what I'm saying is .. there are exceptions to all things,

to include what I am writing in this sentence. ;-)
